Kaepernick still in the cold

-

COLIN KAEPERNICK was snubbed again this week as Houston Texans performed a U-turn on signing the controversial quarterback.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien admitted they had discussed picking up free agent Kaepernick after losing rookie Deshaun Watson for the season.

Kaepernick has been without a team since starting the national anthem protests that have swept the league when he was with the San Francisco 49ers last season.

And he has filed a complaint against the NFL owners, claiming they have colluded to stop him playing because of his protests against social injustice. The Texans instead signed journeyman Josh Johnson, who has not played since 2013 and has not even attempted a pass in the NFL since 2011.

O’Brien said: “Colin Kaepernick’s a good football player but he hasn’t played football in a while.”

Yet the move for Johnson, who has been with eight different teams in the past four years without winning a regular spot, is the latest blow for Kaepernick.

Houston look set to stick with Tom Savage as a starter, although he was terrible when he stepped in for the injured Watson in last week’s 20-14 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Meanwhile, two of the most famous names in the history of the game meet in California on Sunday – with a grand total of one win out of 17 matches between them this season.

The New York Giants will be looking for their second victory this term when they visit the winless San Francisco 49ers.
