MOTOR racing legend Michael Schumacher is sending his family “signals from a distant world”.

The Formula 1 hero, left in a coma after a skiing accident, is communicating with close relatives, a family friend says.

A horror accident in 2013 left the seven-time world champion with life-threatening injuries.

His family repeatedly refuses to officially comment on his condition but are said to be hoping for a “medical miracle”.

“He is sending signals from a distant world. Corinna (Schumacher’s wife) and the children hope to this day that a medical miracle happens,” an unnamed source told German media.

Doctors have operated on the ex-Ferrari and Mercedes ace several times to remove blood clots from his brain but some were left as they were too deep.

Medics described his condition as “extremely serious” after two life-saving operations at Grenoble Hospital following the accident in the French Alps.

A 15-strong team of doctors are believed to give the racer round the clock care at his Switzerland home.

Former Benetton team-mate Johnny Herbert previously revealed Schumacher has “good and bad days”. His manager Sabine Kehm has previously said in a statement: “Michael’s health is not a public issue, and so we will continue to make no comment in that regard.

“We have to protect his intimate sphere.

“Legally seen, and in the longer term, every statement related to his health would diminish the extent of his intimate sphere.

“Michael has always been very protective of his privacy, even during the most successful times of his career.

“He has always made sure there is a clear and distinct line between his public persona and his private one.”
