Grant keen to get Posh firing again
GRANT McCANN insists he isn’t too down over Jekyll and Hyde Peterborough’s recent slump.
Inconsistent Posh dropped out of the top six after a five-game winless run, before bouncing back to underline their potential by beating League One leaders Shrewsbury.
Hopes of ending a five-season exile from the Championship were raised when McCann’s men sprinted out of the blocks thanks to five victories in their first six games.
The Peterborough boss came in for criticism from fans during the month-long win drought, and he reckons it’s hard to maintain perspective thanks to the roller-coaster results during the first three months of the campaign.
Posh are just a point outside the play-off picture ahead of tomorrow’s trip to AFC Wimbledon, and the former Northern Ireland international said: “We’re in a good position.
“One of the most difficult issues at this club is keeping on an even keel.
“We tend to either get a lot of praise for winning, or we hit rock bottom when we lose, so it’s my job to get the balance right.
“If we won our game in hand, we would be fifth in the league and my message has been consistent throughout because I have a good group of players here who can succeed.”
McCann admits time on the training ground will be at a premium this month with his side facing a hectic schedule of four consecutive midweek games in league and cup.
Peterborough are on their worst away run in League One since 2015, having gone five games without a win on the road.
But the 37-year-old said: “I’m confident we’ll be in even better shape at the end of the month. We can cope with a run of games like we’re in at present because we’re a fit team.
“It’s a chance for players to come in, perform well and keep their place.”
