WHENEVER anyone used to mention the words “Doctor Who” to Christopher Eccleston he usually beat a hasty retreat.
He famously quit his role as the Time Lord in 2005 after just one series and refused to appear in the 50th anniversary episode.
But he may have mellowed somewhat now.
During filming of The A Word, his co-star Leon Harrop happened to mention the BBC sci-fi series in an impromptu scene.
And Eccleston reveals: “Afterwards the director was going: ‘We can’t use that’ because I used to be Doctor Who but I thought it was good. I hope it is staying in.”
¬ÊThe A Word is on BBC One tomorrow at 9pm.
