MY husband wants to blow our savings on a boat. He pleads that it’s always been his dream to captain his own vessel.

He knows I get seasick on a pedalo, but won’t let it go. I’m being nagged morning, noon and night to release the £20,000 we have in our building society book.

It feels as though he’s testing me – and I’m being backed into a corner. Is he having a mid-life crisis?

JANE SAYS: Surely if you have £20,000 jointly saved, then £10,000 is “his”. Suggest he buys what he can with his half and leaves you alone.

Could he rent a vessel and see how he gets on? Ultimately, if he’s absolutely determined to do this, then are there cracks in your relationship that you both need to address?

We all need a bit of rainy day money put away for emergencies.
