Finn slams Wales absentees
LIAM FINN has had a pop at Wales’ stayaway stars.
The Ireland scrum-half scored a try and kicked five goals in yesterday’s 34-6 win over them.
But the Wakefield star said he took little pleasure in beating an understrength Wales side who have lost all three of their World Cup games. He said: “We don’t take any satisfaction out of beating Wales, they’ve been let down by a number of players who pulled out late. I don’t think it’s good enough.”
Wales’ players are earning about £1,000 for the tournament and some insisted they couldn’t afford to take part. Many of John Kear’s squad are part-timers who have had to take unpaid leave from their day jobs to play.
Kear, Finn’s head of rugby at Wakefield, said: “We are disappointed we didn’t have a stronger squad. Rather than get involved in a slanging match, I’d rather focus on what’s happened.”
