Brutal punch after boozy row

PRINCESS Kate’s uncle has admitted knocking out his wife with a punch.

Gary Goldsmith, 52, launched a left hook after a drunken row on the way home from a charity event.

Wife Julie-Ann, 47, suffered bruising to her cheek and a graze on her elbow when she was knocked unconscious.

Kate Shilton, prosecuting, told a court yesterday that Goldsmith threw what was described by their taxi driver, Daniel Shepherd, as a “left hook”. She added: “The argument took place in the back of a taxi.

“They both got out the taxi. Mr Shepherd describes Mrs Goldsmith slapping her hus- band to the face. He then describes how Goldsmith punches her in the face.” Mrs Goldsmith lay motionless on the ground with her eyes closed for about 15 seconds and was taken to hospital with bruising. Goldsmith, of Marylebone, central London, admitted assault. He will be sentenced on November 21 but Westminster chief magistrate Emma Arbuthnot said he would not go to jail. Bail conditions prevent him contacting his wife or visiting their address.
