Pulis on the brink

TONY PULIS is on the brink at struggling West Brom.

The under-pressure boss could have just two games left to save his job.

With his head on the block, Pulis’ fate now rests on Saturday’s home clash with champions Chelsea and the trip to title-chasing Tottenham a week later.

The Baggies have slumped to 16th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone. Guochuan Chinese owner

Lai will fly in for Saturday’s game well aware of the unrest among fans after a

nightmare run of two wins in their last 20 league games.

They started the season brightly with seven points from the first three games but have lost their last three and have not won in the league since August.

They also have to face Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool before the year is out.

Pulis can point to injuries having dealt him a poor hand, but the 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield in their last game was met with anger from travelling fans.

Pulis took himself off for a sunshine holiday in Barbados during the international break but the heat is still well and truly on at The Hawthorns.

Chairman John Williams would be reluctant to sack Pulis who only signed an extension to his contract in August which takes him to the summer of 2019.

But it will be out of his hands if the Chinese power-brokers decide it is time for a change.

Defeat in the next two games would almost certainly plunge Albion into the drop zone.

Pulis, 59, has steadied the ship since taking over almost three years ago.

He joined a club struggling but led them clear of trouble and last season they finished 10th.

However, their form at the end of the campaign was like that of a relegation side as they finished with two draws and seven defeats.
