GAIA: POLICE RULE OUT FOUL PLAY

Dad blasts ‘witch hunt’

POLICE last night admitted no-one else was involved in Gaia Pope’s death – just hours after a dad blasted them for arresting three of his family and ruining their lives.

Dorset Police said a post-mortem examination “has not identified any injuries to suggest any other person was involved”.

They said they were no longer treating the teenager’s death as suspicious.

The statement justified Greg Elsey’s fury as all his family were cleared of any involvement after earlier being released under investigation.

Greg’s ex-wife Rosemary, 71, carpenter son Paul, 49, and actor grandson Nathan, 19, had all been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Greg stormed: “We will take action for wrongful arrest. Mud sticks, doesn’t it?”

Gaia, 19 vanished after calling at frail Rosemary’s home in a distressed state. Her body was eventually found near Swanage, Dorset.

Greg said: “The officers running this investigation seem to be a bunch of woodentops.

“It feels like they arrested Paul just to make it look like they were doing something.

“We have only ever tried to help – both Gaia and the police. But what my family has been through due to Rosemary’s act of kindness in inviting Gaia into her home is terrible.

“What was she supposed to do? Say, ‘You don’t look at all well but don’t come in?’

“Paul wasn’t even around at the time, he was working 30 miles away. And you’ve seen my ex-wife? She carries around an oxygen tank for goodness sake.”

More tests will be carried out to find the exact cause of Gaia’s death.
