Sale Brits look after No1

- By RUTH McKEE ruth.mckee@dailystar.co.uk

SHOPPERS hunting a bargain will spend a fortune on Black Friday – to treat themselves.

The sale has become “Black Me Day” with only two out of five people preparing to splash out on gifts for their loved ones.

Instead, most of us want to cash in on cut-price offers for ourselves.

Figures reveal 59% of Brits will shun their nearest and dearest in favour of treating themselves to the latest musthave ® item. But most will go nowhere near the high street, and instead will shop from the comfort of their home.

Nearly eight out of 10 – or 78% – will do their Black Friday dealing online.

And many will even bag a bargain to kill time on their commute, with most people hunting for deals between 6pm and 7pm.

With so many bargain hunters shunning stores, Britain will be spared chaotic Black Friday scenes from previous years.

The survey also revealed that most people have been planning what to buy for months.

A quarter of us will make a beeline for tellies, while 18% have their hearts set on video games consoles.

Gadget fans will also be looking for a bargain, with 14% of consumers keen to buy the latest drone.

The research comes after it emerged that 34% of workers will book the day off to hit the shops.

And 7% are such committed bargain hunters they will be setting their alarms for 5am.

Kevin Stagg, of Bing.com said: “Black Friday is now one of the most hotly anticipated shopping days in the calendar.

“Over £1.3billion was spent in the UK last year, and the continued surge in mobile use suggests that it will be surpassed this year, with consumers using their commutes to bag the best deals.”

He added: “Interestingly, despite complaints about how difficult it is to buy gifts for people, we’re not making it any easier on friends and family by using the sales to snag ourselves a gift ahead of time.”
