Public share child killer snaps

JON Venables’ cover was blown on social networking sites last night following his second bust for possessing child porn.

Angry members of the public risked jail by sharing photos of the child killer even though he has lifelong anonymity to protect him from revenge attacks.

Most appeared to know they were breaking the law in circulating his picture. One urged others to share the photo with friends before it was removed by website bosses.

The campaign could result in Venables getting a fifth new identity. He has had four since his 2001 release from an indefinite sentence for the murder of two-year-old James Bulger from Kirkby, Merseyside, in 1993.

Each name change costs taxpayers £250,000.

Venables, 35, and accomplice Robert Thompson were both 10 when they abducted, tortured and killed James before leaving his body on a railway line.

They were given new identities to protect them from vigilantes before being released. Only Maxine Carr – the ex-fiancée of Soham murderer Ian Huntley – and child killer Mary Bell have the same privilege.

Venables has twice been recalled to jail for breaching his lifelong licence after ® being caught with child pornography. His latest arrest came after officials found “sickening” images on his computer.

In 2007, Venables tried to seduce single mother-of-one Sarah Finn, 36, via social media. Unaware of his true identity she swapped dozens of messages and texts.

She cut off ties with the child killer after he sent a picture of his manhood.

A legal source said Venables’ right to anonymity may be reviewed following his latest recall to prison.
