city life, we headed back to Minneapolis-Saint Paul.

Sitting on the banks of the Mississippi, the twin cities are pitched as new versus old, with Minneapolis the home to skyscrapers and glossy new apartments while Saint Paul is the historical old state capital.

Music lovers are still flocking to Minneapolis to pay homage to its most famous export.

Purple Rain legend Prince made the city his home and Paisley Park, where he died, has now opened as a permanent memorial to his life.

New murals dedicated to Prince are constantly popping up on any available wall space.

And the First Avenue club and music venue, which saw some of his most famous performances – including in the hit movie Purple Rain – is part of the pilgrimage.

A visit to Minneapolis wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Mall of America – the biggest shopping mall in the US.

Featuring more than 400 shiny tax-free stores and an enormous theme park in the centre, it’s a day trip in itself.

For adrenaline junkies there are zip wires and rollercoasters. But the newly-opened Flyover America experience, a multi-sensory virtual flight across all 50 states, complete with wind, scents, mist and moving seats, will certainly leave you on a high.
