ANTHONY CROLLA has always been described as boxing’s Mr Nice Guy.

The title of his recently-released book is even ‘Good Guys Can Win’ but it offers a reminder of how tough this sport can be.

Of course there is a happy ending to the tale for Crolla, with a world title in 2015 and healthy pay cheques for clashes with pound-forpound star Jorge Linares, even if they both ended in defeat.

But those with shorter memories will forget the darker days of Crolla’s career and that is not even including the time he was attacked by burglars and cracked over the head with a concrete slab.

When talking at the book’s launch last week, Crolla offered up the highlights of his career.

Of course the world title win was in there but so was a 2013 victory over Gavin Rees at Bolton Arena.

Not one that many will remember, but an important one for Crolla.

He said: “That was a big win for me, I had a baby on the way and was living at my partner’s parents’ house at the time. That enabled us to put money down on a deposit for a house.”

Just four years ago, Crolla could not even afford the deposit, despite having been a profession­al for seven years.
