Pelle: I Saint fearful of chop

- By DANIEL SHELDON

SOUTHAMPTON boss Mauricio Pellegrino insists that he does not fear the sack.

Many Saints fans are calling for him to be axed if they fail to beat managerless Everton at St Mary’s tomorrow.

But a defiant Pellegrino, in charge for only 12 games, said: “I’m scared about a lot of things – but not about my job.

“The biggest risk is to work in football, because you need results all the time.

“It’s a really nice job with a lot of situations that I know, ® and I knew in my past as a player. Everything can happen or everything can change in only one or two games.”

Saints have won only three home matches since April.

And supporters are worried their team, who are facing a daunting fixture list between now and January, are courting relegation.

Pellegrino added: “When we think about the end of the last season, between eighth and 17th, there were six points. We’re talking about 10 teams and six points.

“We have to fight for every single point. We are three points from eighth, or four points away from being top of the table or the bottom.

“The problem is that the players are human beings and sometimes they don’t have the same pressure or the same energy and it depends a lot on the situation.

“This is part of our life in football.”
