CEREAL KILLERS

Sweet ending for Ricicles

- By RUTH McKEE ruth.mckee@dailystar.co.uk

BREKKIE fans are horrified that giant Kellogg’s are axing one of the sweetest cereals.

Ricicles will be scrapped in a drive to slash the sugar in their products.

Government chiefs have been dishing out increasing pressure on food firms to cut sugar levels with the aim of fighting soaring rates of childhood obesity.

Outcry

But the cereal killing decision has sparked uproar throughout Britain.

Former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson last night led the public outcry against the cruel cut. The 25-yearold ® raged at Kellogg’s: “What’s this I’m hearing about you lot getting rid of Ricicles. Fuming!!”

But the cheeky company quipped back at Louis: “Why don’t you dedicate your new single ‘Miss You’ to Captain Rik? (the Ricicles mascot)”.

And Pointless TV presenter Richard Osman joked: “Gutted that Kellogg’s have announced they’re axing Ricicles. How will we know what the worst cereal in a Variety Pack is now?”

The American food producer vows it will reduce sugar by 40% in chocolateflavoured breakfast cereal Coco Pops. And Rice Krispies will also have a 20% reduction in their sugar content.

Sugar-coated Frosties escaped the cull as they are considered an “adult cereal”.

Although Kellogg’s have banned toy promotions on Frosties packets, the company has kept their Tony the Tiger cartoon on the carton – despite claiming the product is aimed at adults.
