ARNOLD Schwarzenegger’s “I’ll be back” line from The Terminator is our favourite to quote at other people.
A study reveals that we use famous lines from films and TV shows three times a week.
While Arnie’s unforgettable line is our favourite movie phrase to deliver, used by three in five people, the top telly quote is Homer Simpson’s classic “D’oh!”which two in five people regularly say.
“Houston we have a problem” from Apollo 13 is our second favourite movie line, followed by Top Gun’s classic “I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you”. Alien E.T. delivers our fourth most repeated quote with “E.T. phone home”, closely followed by Gone With The Wind’s “Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn” .
Iconic
Our second favourite TV quote is Victor Meldrew’s “I don’t believe it” from One Foot In The Grave, followed by Del Boy’s classic insult “You plonker” from Only Fools And Horses.
Tony Singh of BT TV, which did the survey, said: “All of us borrow quotes when speaking to friends and family, or when posting on social media.”
The poll found that, on average, we repeat lines from film and TV shows three times a week.
We’re most likely to say them to our friends (43%) followed by partners (42%).
Film critic James King said: “There are so many iconic quotes in these lists from different eras of film and television, there is something for everyone.”
