JOE’S FESTIVE FOCUS

JOE GOMEZ says Liverpool are heading for a make-orbreak Christmas.

The young defender has had quite a month and hopes he’s about to have another corker going into the New Year.

The 20-year-old made his England debut against Germany before playing from the start a few days later against Brazil at Wembley.

Wednesday’s 3-0 win at Stoke made it seven games unbeaten for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who are fifth.

Gomez said: “It’s going to be a make or break period in terms of challenging and that is what we want to try and do.

“We want to capitalise on the points available and hopefully we can keep on a decent run and get as many as we can. That momentum and confidence can carry you through.” The crucial ® victory at Stoke was another milestone for the Mersey men on their travels.

While all the headlines centred around Mohamed Salah’s double off the bench, which took his tally to 17 for the season, it was the first time Liverpool have claimed a clean sheet on their travels.

Their notoriously brittle defence held out as Gomez and his pals showed they can produce on a freezing night in the Potteries

Gomez said: “We know Stoke is always a tough place and that is why it was an important win for us.

“We got the clean sheet and that was our main focus at 3-0 up, to try and see it out, and we are happy we kept it.

“We have let a few leads slip and as a back four it’s one of our focal points in an away game.

“As soon as we score we think, ‘Let’s keep a clean sheet’, because if you do that you win. It was massive for us.”
