ANGRY Arsene Wenger claims Mauricio Pochettino sent out the wrong message when he ruled Tottenham out of the title race – and insists Arsenal are still in it.

Spurs boss Pochettino accepted his side’s challenge was over even before Saturday’s draw with Watford, admitting the gap between his side and leaders Manchester City was already too big to bridge.

But Arsenal are three points closer to the runaway Premier League leaders – and Wenger reckons this crushing defeat will just make his side even more determined to catch up.

Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard put United 2-0 up in 11 minutes before Lingard struck again after Alexandre Lacazette pulled one back in a thriller of a game.

Paul Pogba’s red card with 16 minutes to go made for a dramatic ending but Arsenal were denied two penalties and United held on.

Wenger said: “I am not Pochettino, I am Arsene Wenger. I am here to fight as long as I can. As long as it’s mathematically possible, you have to fight.

“You cannot give any other message out. I believe this game has made us angry and even more determined.

“If I am a player, and I think with what we produced, we have a huge potential and we lose the game, we cannot accept that.

“That’s what you want, the players have produced a quality performance. Do I think the players think that? Yes.

“The spirit of the players, the attitude and quality of our combinations were top class. But we have the experience to get more out of a game like that, you know.

“I take a lot of positives and I feel sorry for the players. That’s why I’m angry. We have lost games here against Man United where we didn’t deserve anything.

“But what makes you angry is when you produce that performance and you have nothing to show. That’s difficult to accept.”

Arsenal had been on fire at the Emirates this season and were looking for a club record
