Nazon easy for Robins

- By TIM NASH

® COVENTRY boss Mark Robins praised his side’s finishing after they reached the FA Cup third round for the first time since 2014.

The League Two Sky Blues – winners in 1987 – ruthlessly exposed the 26-place gap between the teams.

Coventry took the lead in the 27th minute through Duckens Nazon, who then teed up Marc McNulty for the second just before the break before Jordan Shipley sealed it shortly after half-time.

Robins, a Cup winner with Manchester United in 1990, said: “Our first meaningful attack ended up in a goal after some really good movement, good play and good passing.

“Their keeper, Grant Smith, made a good save from McNulty’s shot and Nazon had a touch before firing into the net.

“Then nerves settled well and truly after McNulty’s outstanding goal.

“Clinically that was a really high-class goal and that will do his confidence the world of good again and he can keep going.

“We were good – it was a professional performance and for a young team, I thought we were great.

“There’s a lot of pressure on these games because of the banana skin element of them and, because they’re played on a Sunday, you can see teams having a real go.

“The gap appears to be getting smaller and odd results can turn up unless you’re professional, but I thought we were really good.”

Boreham Wood boss Luke Garrard was proud of his players after reaching the second round for only the second time in their 69-year history.

“This is what dreams are made of – we created history at the club,” he said. “It put a marker down.”

On-loan Wolves striker, Nazon, 23, hooked home his eighth of the season after McNulty’s shot was parried by Smith.

Nazon then sent McNulty racing through to lob Smith for the Sky Blues’ second on 40 minutes for his seventh of the campaign.

Shipley sealed it when he tapped home McNulty’s cross in the 48th minute.
