ALMOST OUT ON A LIMB
Posh’s penalty let-off
ANTHONY LIMBRICK claims Woking could have claimed another League One scalp in the FA Cup.
The Cards boss saw his side force a replay against Peterborough after a late Joe Ward effort.
The non-Leaguers dumped Bury out in the last round but saw Chez Isaac miss a first-half penalty.
Despite a late assault on the Posh goal, Limbrick was disappointed at not finishing the job at home.
“It was strange in the dressing room afterwards, people were really down because we felt we deserved to win the game and we didn’t,” he said.
“You’re pushing a League One side at the end for the last 20 minutes, that was a credit to us.
“I’ve always had Chez down to take the penalty, that is my decision as a manager and it’s easy to look in hindsight. He was outstanding.
“We wanted to make sure we kept the Woking flag flying high, we have a great history of cup runs. We’re still in the hat and it’s great for the club. The atmosphere was unbelievable here.”
Peterborough looked on course to avoid an upset on 24 minutes when Ryan Tafazolli pounced after keeper Nathan Baxter parried.
Isaac then saw his spot-kick saved by keeper Jonathan Bond.
But Peterborough were finally pegged back with six minutes left. Ward fired home for the hosts when he connected with a cross from Nathan Ralph to leave Kingfield rocking.
Isaac and Ward both hit the crossbar late on and Posh manager Grant McCann admits his side must improve in the replay.
“We’ve seen what Woking did to Bury in the previous round and they’ll be thinking they can do the same to us,” he said.
“I was disappointed with our quality in the final third. I think we got into some good areas but the last pass let us down, or we weren’t concentrating enough.
“We live to fight another day, we’ll see who we or Woking will be drawn against and we need to finish the job at home.”
