Sudanese ‘top migrants list’

- By OLIVER PRITCHARD oliver.pritchard@dailystar.co.uk

SUDANESE migrants are the most successful at reaching Britain – because of their daredevil tactics.

The North Africans are among refugees from across the globe desperately trying to get into the UK from northern France.

An aid worker, who asked not to be named, said: “They’re the most successful nation at getting into the UK.

“There are lots of Kurdish migrants and Afghans here and they seem to stay around longer. The Sudanese try so hard they quickly get into the UK.”

The worker has been supporting migrants around Dunkirk’s former Grande-Synthe refugee camp for the past six months. The camp closed after it was engulfed by fire in April – sparking clashes with French police.

The Daily Star visited the area this week and found more than 100 migrants living in woodland nearby.

They sleep in makeshift shelters which are routinely destroyed by the police. Most spend their days sleeping before walking two hours to service stations close to the Calais ferry terminal – where they try to jump on to a lorry bound for the UK.

Karzen is a 27-year-old Afghan who has been living around Dunkirk for the past four months. He said: “Everyone wants to go to the UK and they are willing to do it any way they can.”

Charity volunteer Jed Tinsley, 21, from Liverpool, has been supporting the migrants since February.

He said their plight has worsened since the so-called Jungle camp at Calais was destroyed in October 2016.

Mr Tinsley added: “Everyone here is basically homeless. The best they have is a tent and they are routinely destroyed by the police.”
