Wenger: Whingers won’t sway me

- By PAUL BROWN

ARSENE WENGER has revealed his Arsenal players questioned his tactics during a training ground inquest this week.

But the Frenchman showed them who is boss by insisting it is his opinion that counts.

Arsenal lost 3-1 at home to Manchester United last Saturday to fall further behind in the title race ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Southampton.

But Wenger admitted there was a difference of opinion about why they lost that game.

He said: “Everybody has a little bit of his own analysis, but mine counts! We analysed it in a very ® objective way. We had a very strong creative performance and a poor defensive performance.

“You know you have to clear the air straight away when you have a defeat like that, a disappointment like that.

Smashing

“In our job, in the next game, you can show you have digested that and focused on what is in front of you.”

Arsenal bounced back from that result by smashing BATE Borisov for six in the Europa League on Thursday.

But that was with a team full of fringe players and Wenger is set to ring the changes again tomorrow. With Shkodran Mustafi doubtful due to a thigh injury, Wenger suggested he could switch to a back four.

He said: “I decided to play with a back four against BATE Borisov. It is my preferred system.

“But I adjust always what suits the players, the quality of the players, the balance of the team.

“I went to a back four against United as well as we were 2-0 down and I put on an offensive player as we had to come back. But it can change.”

With Arsenal 15 points adrift of leaders Manchester City, Wenger added: “We are too far from the title at the moment to speak about it. It’s not realistic.”
