He said: “I am here playing and don’t know what will happen. I am involved and will do my best when the manager asks me to play.

“This is an important time for me. It is difficult to play one game a month, which happened when I came at the beginning.

“But now we have so many matches that everyone has to be ready because they will all be involved until the beginning of January.” ® ® DEFIANT Stoke boss Mark Hughes last night insisted: “I don’t do relegation.”

Hughes defended his record in the face of mounting criticism for a run of just three wins in 15 games.

Stoke host West Ham tomorrow and defeat will heap further pressure on him. But Hughes insisted: “I don’t do relegation.

“There are a lot of managers who have a badge of honour that they’ve never been relegated.

“I’ve never been relegated because I’m too busy trying to get in top 10s. I’ve never been near it so I’m not going to start now, am I?”

Hughes, who once avoided the drop on the final day with QPR, added: “Everybody has experience­d periods where it’s not going as well as you’d hoped.

“I’m very fortunate, I don’t feel I take any issues surroundin­g work into my home life.”
