Moyes in no hurry for deal
DAVID MOYES insists he will not even discuss his West Ham future until the end of the season.
The Hammers boss was only given a short-term contract when he replaced Slaven Bilic last month.
But he has masterminded a remarkable turnaround to drag his side clear of the danger zone.
West Ham could climb as high as 12th with a win over Newcastle today and the club’s owners have been hugely impressed with the job he has done so far.
But Moyes insists any talks over a new contract are on hold until the summer – and hinted if he does stay, he would sign another short-term deal.
He said: “I’m happy. I won’t be talking about it with the club or anybody until the end of the season.
Prove
“That’s me saying it, not the club. I won’t have any discussion until the end of the season. I think, for most managers now, working on a year’s contract might be the way forward.
“I want to prove what I can do, see if I’m a fit for the club. The way football is now, I’m not interested in a three or four-year contract.”
Moyes also confirmed he held talks about taking over at Newcastle in the summer of 2016, just before he was appointed at Sunderland.
He said: “One of my representatives met Newcastle at the time, but for different reasons we didn’t do it.”
With Michail Antonio a doubt with a calf injury and Manuel Lanzini banned, Moyes could hand a rare start to Diafra Sakho today, with Moyes describing talk of a bust-up between the pair as “a load of rubbish”.
He said: “Diafra offers us a little bit of energy down the sides, there’s a bit of unpredictability in his play.”
