IT’S out with the old and cheers to the New Year as today we kick off an 80-hour drinkathon to welcome in 2018. Brits will be hitting pubs and bars to party hard from now right through the weekend to Monday night. Enjoy!

PARTY-loving Brits will see in the New Year with an 80-hour booze marathon.

The nation is set to knock back more than 150million pints as it welcomes 2018 in style.

Bars, clubs and pubs across the country will see business boom as partygoers enjoy a mammoth weekend booze-fest.

Forecasters are predicting an end to the Arctic blast that has plunged the UK into chaos, which could tempt more people to head out.

Packed

But they warned the weather could still take a turn for the worse with parts of the country set to be hit by rain and wind.

The next three days come with a packed festive football fixture list, as sports fans let their hair down before heading back to work on Tuesday.

From today until into the evening of New Year’s Day on Monday, fans can enjoy 14 top-flight fixtures.

These include revitalised Crystal Palace taking on runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City, as well as a south-coast derby when Brighton host Bournemouth.

Rugby Union also has a packed schedule, with the top six sides in the Aviva Premiership all playing.

Millions are expected to flock to parties across the country to raise a glass as they greet 2018.

Around 113,000 people will enjoy a New Year’s Eve firework display at the South

Bank, hosted by London mayor Sadiq Khan. Elsewhere, nearly 150,000 people will attend Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh.

The booze binge will come after the nation has already spent a whopping £500million on drink over Christmas.

Sales surged this month, up by nearly £172m compared to this time last year.

The drinking marathon will take place despite the possibility of revellers being battered by strong winds. While the Arctic blast may be gone, forecasters say the country faces winds of up to 50mph.

Partygoers will need to wrap up, with experts predicting a “cloudy, wet and generally unsettled night”.

The Weather Channel forecaster Hannah Findley said: “Strong or gale force winds are likely around midnight across Ireland and the UK.”

This will then be followed by heavy showers across the country. The miserable weather prediction comes after the UK endured the coldest night of the year.

Families suffered sub-zero temperatures last night, with temperatures below minus 13C in some parts of the country.
