I’LL MON THEM

Best still to come from goal king Raheem

- By IAN MURTAGH

GOAL machine Raheem Sterling claims that the Premier League isn’t even seeing the best of him.

The Manchester City forward took his tally to 17 goals this term with Wednesday’s winner at Newcastle, to stretch all-conquering City’s lead at the top to 15 points.

City are one win short of matching Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich side of 2013-14, whose 19 straight wins is the all-time record in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

Sterling has played a key role in that remarkable run after transforming himself into one of English football’s most prolific marksmen.

Yet despite his haul Sterling, 23, reckons he’s not even firing on all cylinders.

“I’ve probably had better seasons with dribbling and stuff like that,” he said.

“But in terms of goalscoring, most definitely it’s my best. This is the most efficient I’ve been and that’s ® exactly what I want to do. There’s no point dribbling if you are not helping the team.”

Sterling admits he is relishing his role as one of City’s executioners.

He said: “Who wouldn’t? Scoring goals is something I’ve always wanted to do.

“I’m always trying to score goals and get better at it. Hopefully I can carry on.

Chasing

“It’s a massive bonus having someone like Kevin De Bruyne and we’ve also got Bernardo and David Silva who can see passes. You’ve just got to make the run and most of the time they will find you.”

Sterling insists the City dressing room remains grounded despite the records they’ve already set and those they are still chasing.

“To keep on winning is the biggest motivation you can have,” he said.

“All credit to the boys because once one game has finished, we look to the next one. The focus is now on Crystal Palace and getting three points there.

“I don’t think anyone is too focused on the record.

“Once you win a game and the stats come up that’s all well and good, but we can’t be thinking about that.”
