STORMING INTO THE NEW YEAR
Fake booze hell
STORM Dylan is set to smash into Britain on New Year’s Eve with monster 80mph winds – as Britain recovers from its snow hell.
The fourth named storm of the season, after Aileen, Brian and Caroline, will bring a wild end to 2017 when it arrives tonight.
Super-strong winds and torrential rain will smash into the North, as Dylan moves in from Ireland.
Heavy downpours will threaten flooding across London and the south east, south west and Wales on Saturday night.
And Dylan will continue into Sunday night, leaving revellers with a soggy start to 2018.
The Met Office warned: “Some very strong winds are possible across Northern Ireland and then southern Scotland on New Year’s Eve.”
They warned of damage to buildings and large waves hitting coastal areas.
Travellers on Sunday will also be hit by strikes as members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union on South Western Railway and CrossCountry walk out for 24 hours.
The wet outlook comes after 10cm of snow fell in northern England yesterday, with even more on higher ground.
Glasgow Airport was temporarily closed as blizzard conditions hit, while other parts of the UK suffered torrential rain and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, forecasters warned further heavy downpours and strong winds could bring chaos next week. NEW Year’s Eve revellers are being warned to avoid fake alcohol containing potentially fatal ingredients ahead of the biggest social night of the year.
The warning follows seizures of counterfeit vodka with industrial-strength levels of alcohol which can lead to vomiting, permanent blindness, kidney or liver problems and even death.
The Local Government Association is urging shoppers to look out for tell-tale signs that bottles are fake. These include unfamiliar brand names, crooked labels, spelling mistakes, and low prices which are “too good to be true”.
