Wagner does it the Hudder way
DAVID WAGNER will not copy Sean Dyche’s ways – despite being a big fan of the Burnley boss.
The Clarets arrive at the John Smith’s Stadium today to face a team on a run of one defeat in five matches, while Burnley are in the mix for Europe.
But Wagner feels that despite the clubs being similar in stature, they have little in common.
“After Manchester City and what Pep Guardiola has done this season, what Sean and Burnley have done is outstanding,” he said.
Difficult
“The results speak for themselves. They are difficult to break down. They have conceded the fourth-fewest goals this season in the Premier League. It is an unbelievable achievement.
“We are on a totally different route from Burnley. The size of the clubs and the cities are comparable, but they are on a totally different level to us. I would love to have their wage bill.
“I don’t moan about it but they have played in the Premier League for three of the last four years. Right now, there is a big gap between Huddersfield and Burnley. We have to write our own story.
“Burnley did it in a totally different way and they made it great.
“The Premier League is different now to when Burnley were first there. It would make no sense to try and follow them.
“Our inspiration has to be our environment. The people, the fans and the stadium – this is our inspiration, not Burnley.”
Wagner is not sure if he will be able to bolster his squad in January.
But he added: “Other clubs can save their money for a phone call. We will not sell any player that I don’t want to sell.”
