HERE WE SNOW AGAIN

I’ve got a waterbed US ice blast to rock UK

AN Arctic snap that has been sweeping America is now set to fuel an icy blast in the UK.

Residents in normally sun-soaked Florida faced their first snowfall in three decades, with freezing conditions piling on the misery.

And weathermen are warning the cold blast will soon cause a chilly front in Britain with more snow for us too.

John Hammond, former BBC and Met Office forecaster, predicted the ice-cold conditions in the US would bring bitter temperatures this weekend.

He said: “The North American cold weather will not drift across the Atlantic and reach us.

“However, it will help indirectly to bring some bitter weather to us from this weekend onwards.

“The bulge of cold air will push up a dome of warmth ahead of it, which in turn will allow another cold bulge further downstream to escape towards us from Scandinavia and eventually, perhaps, Russia.”

Mr Hammond’s warning comes as forecasters predicted thermometers would plunge to -10C in parts of the country during the coming days.

Below-zero temperatures are predicted for much of the UK, with snow showers likely to hamper the North. Bookmakers Coral has cut the odds on London getting snow by the end of the weekend to 6-4, while it is odds-on at 4-6 for the white stuff landing in Newcastle. And as the UK battles against the elements, the bookmakers make it 6-4 this January will be the coldest on record. Public Health England last night urged people to prepare for the cold and keep an eye on the vulnerable. The Met Office has aleready issued a level 2 “alert and readiness” cold weather health warning between tomorrow and next Tuesday. Numbing winds coming in from the Arctic tonight could trigger “dangerous” weather conditions, it warns. Heavy rain will start turning to snow later today with wintry flurries forecast across northern England, the east coast and Scotland. Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said: “There is a risk of some very sharp and widespread frosts as temperatures drop to -8C overnight in the north. “Showers will start to turn wintry and we expect snowfall in northern Britain and along the east coast as the cold winds come in from the north-east.”
