Poch is now up for Cup

- By DAVID WOODS

MAURICIO POCHETTINO insists he values the FA Cup, despite saying in November the competition was not a priority.

The Spurs boss said then: “It is the Premier League and Champions League that is a massive challenge for big clubs. That type of trophy are real trophies.”

But Spurs are now fifth, trailing Premier League leaders Manchester City by 21 points after a 1-1 draw at home to West Ham on Thursday.

They also face a tough tie in the Champions League, where they face Juventus in the knockout stage.

So their best bet now looks to be the FA Cup, which they last won in 1991, and they start their bid against AFC Wimbledon at Wembley tomorrow.

Asked if he now rated the FA Cup, the Argentine said: “You need to put my words in context. I never said that. For a club like Tottenham to be consistent in the top four, fighting for the Champions League and the Premier League is so important for us.

“Of course the Carabao Cup and FA Cup are important to win. We showed a lot of respect (in the Carabao Cup) with our starting 11, just like we are going to show on Sunday.

“We want to win trophies but it is so important to be consistent in the Premier and then a massive effort in the Champions League.

“The problem is that I am sometimes too honest and showing my feelings and emotions. Maybe I need to change.”
