Ace in ‘rape’ ordeal
A FORMER Manchester City footballer cleared of raping a drunken teen in just 30 minutes says he has suffered a two-year “nightmare”.
George Glendon, 22, was found not guilty of rape by a jury of nine women and three men at Grimsby Crown Court.
Glendon was on trial accused of targeting the 19-year-old after meeting her in a nightclub.
She could not remember what happened to her apart from ending up in a man’s bedroom in Cleethorpes, Lincs, with her dress off.
Glendon admitted they had consensual sex for “around five seconds”.
The prosecution claimed the woman was so “falling over drunk” she was “incapable of stringing a sentence together” and could not have consented.
Glendon’s lawyer Judy Khan QC told the court the footballer’s arrest had been “the start of a nightmare for him”.
Following his arrest, City sold the midfielder to League One minnows Fleetwood Town.
