Scott’s Grand design

- By JULIE STOTT

® SCOTT TAYLOR plans to use his bittersweet World Cup story to drive Hull to Grand Final glory.

The prop was gutted to get only one call off the bench in England’s run to the final in the autumn.

Taylor, 26, said: “I only played once but it was a dream come true to play in a World Cup in Australia.

“Now I want to nail down a regular spot in the series against New Zealand and be successful with Hull.”

Lee Radford’s men have won the Challenge Cup two years running but lost successive Grand Final play-off semi-finals.

Taylor added: “People used to call us sleeping giants but we are a top-four team now.”

Widnes have signed prop Stanton Albert, 23-year-old brother of recent recruit Wellington Albert.

He played three games for Papua New Guinea in the World Cup and it’s a move that Widnes hope will also help his brother.

Wellington’s arrival has been delayed by the tragic death of PNG star Kato Ottio, who was also due to join the club this week.

Meanwhile, former England and Salford hooker Malcolm Alker has been jailed for four years for armed robbery with a machete in Wigan.
