EX-Googlebox couch potato Sandra Martin might be “a legend” on her sofa thanks to the Channel 4 show.

But that’s not quite how the veteran stars of a new ITV show saw her.

Sandra joined Emmerdale’s Claire King, Benidorm’s Sherrie Hewson, Catchphrase’s Roy Walker, EastEnders stars June Brown and Sid Owen, Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder and the Daily Star’s astrologer Russell Grant for 100 Years Younger In 21 Days. The aim of the forthcoming show is for the stars to try out new treatments – without having surgery – to see if they can turn back the years and look and feel younger.

However, when filming started on location on the island of Sardinia, so did the bitching.

A source said: “A lot of the older stars were quite snooty and just could not understand why Sandra from Gogglebox was there and did not think that she was ‘star quality’ material.

“They were all well-established actors and musicians and entertainers in the business.

“They did not like the fact someone from a reality TV show whose ‘job’ was to sit on a sofa and comment on television was asked on board. They felt that it was scraping the barrel somewhat.”

Last night Sandra – who pulled out of Maidenhead pantomime Aladdin due to “heath issues” in December – refused to comment on the row and said: “I will be selling my story. She has been snapped filming in South Africa but the episode looks like it is set in the 1960s when apartheid was rife.

It has left them wondering whether the Time Lord will get caught up in a racism storyline.
