HIVE might be famed for heating homes but the UK firm has a new gadget that can keep an eye on every part of your pad.

The Hive View joins the evergrowing market of internet-connected cameras, but this diddy cube-shaped device has a very neat trick up its sleeve.

Along with instantly beaming anything it sees, and hears, directly to your smartphone, it can also be quickly detached from its charging base and moved to any room you want to monitor.

That’s because tucked inside is a small battery which gives it the ability to become portable.

This internal power only lasts for around two hours but it’s a nice bonus option for those who may want to keep an eye on children or pets in a different room.

Hive has worked really hard on the design and, while it’s certainly not subtle, the camera’s modern look shouldn’t look too out of place on your window ledge.

And the View not only looks decent enough but also offers incredibly accurate video alerts which are stored in the Cloud and accessed via Hive’s smartphone app.

These are held free for 24 hours with an option to keep footage for 30 days at a cost of £4.99 per month – some rivals charge almost double this for similar features.

All recordings can be filmed in full 1080p HD and its wide-angle lens means the camera is able to give you a comprehensive view of the room you are watching.

Other nice features include Night Vision and even the ability to only notify you when it sees people and not your pet cat wandering by.

StarTech has tested numerous smart cameras over the years and the Hive View has left us seriously impressed.
