Vikings make Case for glory
MINNESOTA’S Case Keenum has helped Vikings fans forget their curse by leading his team to within one game of the Super Bowl.
The Vikings have played in four – all in the 1970s – and lost them all, leading fans to moan they are cursed NEVER to win the biggest game of all.
But quarterback Keenum, 29, changed a few minds by helping Minnesota win a thrilling play-off game against the New Orleans Saints.
He threw a last-second 61-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs to seal a 29-24 win and send the Vikings into Sunday’s NFC Championship game with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Coach Mike Zimmer said: “If there was a curse, we probably would have lost today. Case is a cool customer. He was excited before the game. He’s got a big chip on his shoulder. He’s a lot like us. I know I get criticised for playing the underdog role, but that’s just who we are.” Keenum (left) struggled through his first four NFL seasons before Minnesota signed him last summer on a one-year deal. But his form this season will make him a hot property. Keenum said: “Being a kid growing up, that’s what you do in the backyard. There’s 30 seconds to go, you’re down by two, fourth quarter, play-offs. That’s what you dream about.” This year’s Super Bowl will be played in Minnesota, another incentive for the Vikings. In the AFC, mighty New England Patriots host the Jacksonville Jaguars.
