TOON FANS VENT FURY

- by JASON MELLOR

FURIOUS Newcastle fans have urged Mike Ashley to sell up for the sake of the club.

The collapse of a £300m takeover this week has cast fresh doubt on the future of the club and boss Rafa Benitez.

Ashley is keen to end his turbulent decade-long reign and find a buyer to meet his asking price, after accusing Amanda Staveley of wasting his time.

Supporters reacted with dismay, with fans group AshleyOut laying the blame for the collapse of talks with the Sports Direct billionaire.

A statement read: “We have remained quiet with regards to Mike Ashley’s gross incompetence at running our club. He seems to think that he can sell Newcastle for a large profit from his original investment while the current squad of players is actually worth less than the squad he inherited 10 years ago despite the massive inflation of transfer fees and increase in TV revenue.

“We strongly urge Mike Ashley to put his interests of Sports Direct aside and that he find the best deal he can for both the club and himself as quickly as possible.

“This is arguably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Newcastle United. This opportunity to restore the club to its former glory with the best manager we could possibly get cannot be allowed to fade away.

“We are exhausted, frustrated, and running out of

patience.”
