Ecstatic Latics in stunner

Nine-man Chelsea scrape through thanks to keeper

-

WIGAN sprang a massive FA Cup shock last night as they walloped Bournemouth.

Samy Morsy, Dan Burn and Callum Elder scored to KO their Premier League rivals and seal a fourth-round clash at home to West Ham.

Chelsea survived a scare in a stormy affair against Championship side Norwich.

Pedro and Alvaro Morata were sent off in extra-time for the Blues after it finished 1-1 but Antonio Conte’s men won a penalty shootout 5-3.

They will host Newcastle in the fourth round.

Swansea beat Wolves 2-1 to book a fourth-round tie at League Two Notts County.

CHELSEA ended this astonishing match with nine men but survive in the Cup.

Willy Caballero’s key penalty save from Nelson Oliveira in the shootout was a heartbreaker for Norwich but means the Blues will host Newcastle in the next round.

Jamal Lewis had stunned Chelsea in the last minute of the four added on in normal time.

Antonio Conte’s men were holding on to a one-goal lead but failed to see the match out.

Drought

Timm Klose sent over a cross and Lewis got across his marker and scored off the post with a fine back-header.

Michy Batshuayi had earlier ended a Chelsea goal drought stretching nearly six hours.

Batshuayi had been woeful until he gave the Blues the lead in the 55th minute with his 11th goal of the season.

Conte had been moaning about fixture congestion so onto the bench went Eden Hazard, Alvaro Morata, N’Golo Kante and Andreas Christensen. In came Ethan Ampadu, Kenedy and David Luiz. After being held to a goalless draw by the Canaries at Carrow Road, Chelsea clearly wanted the replay over quickly.

Danny Drinkwater, Willian and Cesar Azpilicueta all had early chances to break the deadlock before Angus Gunn did brilliantly to tip Drinkwater’s 25-yard strike on to the bar.

Then it was Norwich’s turn to hit the woodwork, with Oliveira rattling the bar.

The Championship team looked the better side at a subdued Stamford Bridge, with plenty of empty seats. The Canaries had kept four clean sheets in their previous five games and Gunn had hardly been overworked.

The more Chelsea toiled without reward, the more the passes went astray and the more frustrated Conte got.

So there was huge relief when Batshuayi put them ahead.

Abject

The Belgian had been abject up to that point, but Kenedy picked him out unmarked inside the six-yard box and he could hardly miss from there.

If that was the signal for the floodgates to open, no-one told Norwich.

The visitors hit the post through Josh Murphy after an awful spill from Caballero.

But the Chelsea keeper did wonderfully well minutes later to keep out a shot from Tottenham target James Maddison at point blank range.

That came after Pedro was booked for diving in a pathetic attempt to con ref Graham Scott into giving a penalty.

Pedro was sent off for a second booking late into extra time for a foul on Wes Hoolihan.

In the first half of extra-time Willian went down under a challenge from Klose and was booked for diving.

Replays showed there was some contact but there was no VAR overrule.

Then Chelsea were down to nine men when Blues sub Alvaro Morata was also booked for diving.

He then got a second yellow card, and a red, for what appeared to be dissent.
