FILMING a TV thriller about illegal immigrants in Britain proved a headache for the cast and crew of Collateral.

Since the topic is so controversial, many of the places where producers wanted to shoot were strictly off limits.

The four-part drama has a stellar cast with Carey Mulligan, Billie Piper, John Simm and Nicola Walker.

Carey plays a cop tasked with finding the killer of a pizza delivery boy and uncovers a tangled web linked to illegal immigration, the Government, the church and the military.

However, filming certain scenes proved a problem as none of these institutions wanted them there.

Writer David Hare said: “It was impossible to film in real locations. A lot of institutions are very hostile to film-makers. It is a triumph of ducking and diving.”

He also claims the thorny issue of illegal immigrants in post-Brexit Britain even made the BBC jittery.

Hare added: “The minute I started writing about illegal immigration, the BBC became frenzied because it is a hugely important subject. But nobody was writing about this.” Lulu Anastacia Brendan Cole, Charlotte Hawkins, Kelly Brook, Lisa Snowdon, Jo Wood Victoria Pendleton.
