THE SPY WHO LOVED ME WITHOUT ASKING

Old-style 007 was a ‘rapist’

JAMES Bond is a rapist, say youngsters watching classic 007 films for the first time.

Sensitive millennials more familiar with Daniel Craig have slammed the Bonds of Sean Connery and Roger Moore as sexist and racist.

Connery’s iconic Bond was blasted for his “sexually aggressive” seduction techniques. One Twitter user said: “Sean Connery’s James Bond is a flat out rapist.”

Another added: “Watching old school Sean Connery James Bond movies. He’s basically a rapist who occasionally murders a Russian person.”

Others said Ian Fleming’s much-loved character was a “scumbag” and a “sexist wife-beater”. But it wasn’t just 007’s womanising that upset younger viewers. One wrote: “Watching The Man With The Golden Gun and good lordddd the fact that they thought the hyper-racist sheriff character was a fun/wacky presence to bring back speaks volumes.”

The row comes after younger Brits were offended by the 1990s sitcom Friends, calling it “transphobic”, “homophobic” and sexist when it was streamed on Netflix.

But one tweeted: “If the millennials think Friends is sexist they should watch James Bond A View to Kill they will go nuts.”

Even modern Bond has come under fire. Fans claimed to be “traumatised” by Craig’s 007 walking into a shower uninvited and romping with a female in Skyfall.

But The World of James Bond historian Jeremy Black said: “Bond was a very modern man for the 1950s. He admires women who offer sex, femininity and masculinity. His women are independent and driven.”
