TRUMP: I’M SORRY NOW

DONALD Trump yesterday made a stunning apology to pal Piers Morgan for retweeting British far right videos.

In his first international sit-down TV interview, the US president was grilled about the anti-Muslim posts which caused outrage in November.

He eventually made an extraordinary climbdown after Morgan pressed him to say sorry over the three offensive clips.

The videos showed acts of supposed “Islamic violence”, but none could be proved to have been carried out by Muslims.

During the wide-ranging ITV interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Morgan told Trump: “You retweeted an organisation called Britain First — one of the leaders — three times.

“This caused huge anxiety and anger in my country, because Britain First is a bunch of racist fascists.”

At first the billionaire claimed he didn’t know what the controversial group stood for.

Difficult

He said: “Of course I didn’t know that. I know nothing about them and I know nothing about them today other than I read a little bit. I did a retweet. You know retweets. Retweets are very difficult.

“When you do your own tweeting, when you do your own social media it’s fine, when you do those retweets it can cause problems, cause you never know who’s doing it to start off with.”

But Good Morning Britain host Piers told him: “The way it was interpreted was that you were effectively endorsing this bunch of racists, and that caused a lot of anger.”

Trump said he was “the least racist person that anybody is going to meet”, and said he retweeted the videos because he was a “big believer in fighting radical Islamic terror”.

But he finally backed down, saying: “If you are telling me they’re horrible people, horrible, racist people, I would certainly apologise if you’d like me to do that.”

President Trump – The Piers Morgan Interview is tomorrow at 10pm on ITV1.
