Jamie in Puel peril

- By DAVID WOODS

JAMIE VARDY has revealed that he was almost injured this week by his own manager.

The Leicester and England ace admits Claude Puel was taking no prisoners when he joined in with his squad on the training pitch.

Vardy says he might not have been up for the cup today if he hadn’t taken evasive action when he saw the 56-year-old former Monaco defensive midfielder come steaming in.

Puel may appear mild-mannered, but Vardy said: “I had to laugh on Tuesday, when the gaffer was joining in with training.

‘‘The ball was between me and him and he actually launched himself into a tackle.

“I moved out of the way and started laughing to myself and thinking, ‘Wow, here we go’. I made sure that at the next one we were shoulder to shoulder and I tried to give him a little nudge.

“That’s just how he is as a person. He does like to get involved and he still has his playing days in his head.

“He has got plenty of ability and that is probably one of the reasons why he likes joining in, knowing he is not going to be made to look a fool.

“Believe me, he gets really upset if he is on the losing team.

“He has kept himself at the back. He does like launching himself into a few tackles.

“I don’t think the gaffer has realised that he hasn’t got a chance to play himself against Peterborough.”
