GIVE TYSON HIS FAIR SHARE

- by CHRIS McKENNA

TYSON FURY deserves a 50-50 split if he faces Anthony Joshua in a record-breaking £100m megafight.

That is according to promoter Frank Warren, who is understood to be close to signing a multi-fight deal with the Gypsy King.

Fury has not boxed since November 2015 but is close to a return after the suspension on his licence was lifted by the British Boxing Board of Control this month.

The former world heavyweight champion’s licence will be reinstated once he hands in his medical records and pays his fees.

Warren remains tight-lipped on the negotiations but it is believed that a deal is on the verge of being agreed, barring any late hitches.

It would be a significant coup for Warren, and his broadcasting partner BT Sport, to beat rival promoter Eddie Hearn and Sky to his signature. Warren wants to have Fury in action up to four times in the next year, starting with an outing in April.

He says the 6ft 9in fighter should be entitled to half of the pot in any future collision with WBA and IBF king Joshua, who is signed to Hearn’s Matchroom stable.

Warren said: “The name of the game is to keep him busy. Tyson needs a couple of fights first to get match fit and then he can go for Joshua.

“Tyson never lost his titles in the ring and Anthony Joshua has been the benefactor of Tyson’s self-inflicted wounds.

“The fact of the matter is that until he beats Tyson Fury, he isn’t the lineal champion. That’s just how it is.

“You’ve got two guys – let’s just put it straight down the middle 50-50.

“Do you think the public cares? Let’s just get it on. They both need each other.

“It would be biggest grossing fight that has ever taken place in this country, that’s for sure.”
