LOOK AT LEE!

The No.1pullout that scores EVERY time ‘Reject’ Evans sends message to Rovers

LEE EVANS insists he isn’t bothered at missing out on Wolves’ Premier League push.

The midfielder returns to Molineux with his new side Sheffield United today.

But instead of thinking about what might have been with Wolves, he reckons what really hurts still is the pain of being binned as a 15-year-old by Bristol Rovers.

Believing

Evans joined the Blades in an £850,000 switch and said: “It’s exciting times at Wolves right now, with multi-million pound signings and the team racing away at the top of the table.

“Not being a part of all that doesn’t bother me – being released by Rovers as a kid is my biggest disappointment in football.

“To be told at that age that I would never make it in the game was a real kick in the ® teeth. It’s horrible for you to hear something like that.

“But I was determined to keep believing in myself and hoping I would get the chance to prove the people at Bristol wrong.”

Evans, 23, was thrown a lifeline by his hometown team Newport, who were a nonLeague outfit at the time.

A string of dazzling displays earned him a £200,000 move to Molineux, where he thrived under boss Kenny Jackett, helping them win promotion as League One champions four years ago.

But after Jackett’s sacking in July 2016, Evans was given the cold shoulder by Walter Zenga, Paul Lambert and current boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

“Although I feel I’ve maybe got a point to prove, I certainly don’t have an axe to grind with anyone there,” he said.

“Although I didn’t play as much as I would have liked for Wolves, I think I got a fair crack of the whip with them.

“You just have to accept that different managers come in with different ideas. I am not going to blame other people for how my time ended there.

“I have some great memories of my time at Molineux and made some good friends there.

“But for me it’s about doing the very best I can for Sheffield United now.”
