It’s curly fries for new hair
A CURE for baldness could be on the way thanks to a chemical used in McDonald’s fries.
Scientists have regrown hair follicles using chemical dimethylpolysiloxane, which prevents cooking oil from foaming.
The experiments on mice generated fresh hair follicles and within days the lab rodents had furry backs and scalps.
Professor Junji Fukuda, of Yokohama National University in Japan, said: “This simple method is very robust and promising.
“We hope this technique will improve human hair regenerative therapy to treat hair loss such as male pattern baldness.”
PET lovers are set to blow more than £200million on Valentine’s presents for their animals.
A poll of 1,000 owners in the UK revealed 50% of them would rather splash their cash on their furry friends than their lovers.
And 14% have even admitted they loved their four-legged pals more than their other half.
The survey found 44% will spend between £10 and £30 on man’s best friend. And some 5% of the nine million dog and eight million cat owners will even splurge more than £30.
The top gifts were a favourite snack, a toy, a bowl, a special dinner of steak or fish or a jumper. Claire Miller, of Natures Menu, who did the survey, said: “Part of caring for our pets should be ensuring they are fed right, so if treats are your gift of choice, make sure they’re high in nutritional value.”
A number of retailers have jumped on board, including Amazon, which boasts a dozen pages of Valentine’s Day pet merchandise.
