We’ll break all records

CHERRIES ARE ON A ROLL

-

CALLUM WILSON says Bournemouth’s amazing surge up the table is fuelled by a desire to become record breakers.

The Cherries have gone seven top-flight games unbeaten for the first time in their history.

Now striker Wilson has his sights set on eclipsing last season’s ninth-place finish.

Wilson said: “Before the game we knew we had the opportunity to make history for the club again and that was one of our motivations for the victory.

“If you look at our fixtures, we fancy ourselves against the teams we will be coming up against and we want to stay unbeaten for as long as possible.

“Why can’t we make more history by going eight or nine games unbeaten?

“Each game is coming thick and fast but when you actually reflect on the club’s history, it is massive where we are now.

“Every season you want to improve and this season we wanted to do better than last year. It might not take that many points to get into eighth place.

“We have got to make sure we work hard to bridge that gap and keep improving.”

Bournemouth have made a habit of winning the hard way and were 1-0 down after only five minutes when Xherdan Shaqiri headed Stoke in front.

But second-half strikes from substitutes Joshua King and Lys Mousset – the Frenchman’s first in the Premier League – won it for Eddie Howe’s Cherries.

Wilson added: “We showed great character again. We have been down 1-0 in games on this run a lot and have managed to come back and get the result.

“It was not happening for us in the first half but we regrouped at half-time and came out and executed our game plan.

“You bank on all your forward players to chip in with goals and when we go a goal down we are not losing any faith and all believe we can get back into the game.

“We just keep playing our stuff and eventually you can break teams down.

“It is so much fun. You know as a striker you are going to get chances and it is disappointing when you don’t take them but the most important thing is the three points.”

The loss was Paul Lambert’s first as Stoke boss and leaves the Potters in the bottom three.

But goalkeeper Jack Butland reckons there are reasons to be cheerful – thanks to an impressive debut from midfielder Badou Ndiaye.

Butland said: “He is powerful, quick and has quality as well. You can see that with his cross for Shaq’s goal.

“He is a player we are really excited about. He’s had a whirlwind few days and I think his legs were going in the end, so we had to bring him off.

“He’s a bit quiet. We normally get new players singing but I don’t think he wanted to do that, so we got him up dancing. He will be a great addition.” BOURNEMOUTH (3-4-3): Begovic 6; Francis 6, S Cook (KING 13, 8), Ake 7; Fraser 8, Gosling 7, L Cook 7, Daniels 6; Ibe 8 (Pugh, 90), Wilson 6, Stanislas 6 (Mousset 59, 7).
