It would have been nice to get something out of the game.”

The result left both sides just three points above the drop zone.

But for West Ham it came a week after a lame FA Cup fourth-round exit at League One Wigan.

Visiting fans chanted, “Sack the board” and Moyes said: “I’m not an expert on West Ham by a long way. I’ve not been here long enough.

“But all I do know is everybody being together, being supportive, gives us the best chance of making sure we are a Premier League team. “We’re going to need that. We’re going to need their help.”

Glenn Murray put Brighton ahead early on and Jose Izquierdo restored the lead with a secondhalf wonder goal after Javier Hernandez had pulled the Hammers level.

Pascal Gross added the third as Brighton claimed only their second win in 15 league games.

Izquierdo said: “My teammates think that I crossed, so they don’t believe in me! I swear I didn’t cross.

“The quality of it sees me get more confidence that I know I can do it.

“So it shows that my team-mates should believe in me and give enough to the team to show we can do it and win at home.

“Normally we are winning games away, so this is confidence for the team and we need to keep working.”
