It’s so to aid women

AWARDS BOYCOTT CALL BY STAR

-

US rapper G-Eazy will boycott big awards shows to ensure equal rights for women.

The chart star was infuriated by the Grammys which failed to recognise female stars.

Now he believes artists will take a stand against other events.

G-Eazy told me: “We have to have all these movements to bring awareness and attention in an effort to make a change.

“Then you see what happened at the Grammys and the comments afterwards from organisers asking women to ‘step up’ – that’s not OK.

“A boycott is a real possibility; artists have the power, the attention, the leverage, everything.”

The rapper – back with his new album The Beautiful & Damned – reckons artists should speak directly to fans.

He added: “Ultimately it’s the listener that matters, not what award a song gets. The reaction has been strong and it should be – we need to see change and that didn’t happen at the Grammys.”

G-Eazy has attracted extra attention since dating fellow pop star Halsey, documented in their hit duet Him & I. He said: “That song happened right around the time we started seeing each other, the song was everything we were and are.

“The only hard part is the non-stop attention, the media’s eyes are on us always.

“Otherwise it is beautiful and she makes me happy.

“We try to make time for each other. We are working on a Valentine’s hook-up.”

G-Eazy brings his Beautiful & Damned Tour to the UK in May and June, calling at Glasgow, Manchester, London and Birmingham.

He’s keen to add a UK flavour to future collaborations.

The Bay area man added: “It would be super dope to work with a Stormzy or a Skepta, but I love Nando’s the most.” ¬
