Eu aren’t a force!

GROVES SAYS REALITY CHECK AWAITS CHRIS

- By CHRIS McKENNA

GEORGE GROVES insists it’s a myth Chris Eubank Jnr is a formidable force – and reckons his rival’s dad has “lost the plot”.

The WBA super-middleweight champion revved up the pre-fight trash talk as the pair prepare to go toe-to-toe in the World Boxing Super Series semi-finals a week on Saturday.

Groves has laughed off Eubank’s posts on social media and the hype around his sparring videos as he looks to book a spot in the final of the £20m tournament.

He also turned on his opponent’s father, former world champion Chris Snr, as the Manchester Arena fight draws closer.

Groves, 29, said: “He has managed to talk himself into a formidable position, maybe even favourite.

“Why is there such a demand for this fight? Why do people think Eubank can win? I don’t know.

“A lot of things can go on, especially with the Eubanks, that I don’t understand.

“It’s just not reality. TalkSport were videoing terrible sparring that I would never release, then the dad jumps in and it is the blind leading the blind.

“The dad has absolutely lost the plot. He’s ® got his new lease of life through his son. He’s always had a desire to be loved.

“The pair of them have got themselves into a position now where some people have bought into it, they believe he is the next coming.

Elevated

“They believe that he is a genuine article and not only is he going to win this fight, but he is a formidable force. I don’t see it.

“It won’t be an easy fight but the way he has been elevated means it will be a huge fall from grace for him.”

Groves also insists Eubank Jr has no reason to be flash as he is yet to win a big fight. His most high-profile clash ended in defeat to current WBO middleweight title-holder Billy Joe Saunders in 2014.

The Londoner added: “He wants all the things he’s wanted for so long, he probably thinks he’s going to achieve them.

“The documentary which came out this week looks like Homes Under the Hammer. We’ve all seen it, he’s wandering around, opening windows, testing shelves and stuff in this big house.

“But you’ve got to win some fights first, you know what I mean.

“There’s no point dreaming about stuff which ain’t happened. He’s getting a little bit ahead of himself.”
