JAIL THUGS HUNT FOR VENABLES

Photos clue to monster

PRISON vigilantes are trying to track down child-killer Jon Venables.

They are using alleged recent photos of James Bulger’s murderer sent to phones smuggled behind bars.

A reward is said to have been offered to anyone who attacks him. Sources said he was “Public Enemy No1 once again” after he was jailed on Wednesday for 40 months for possessing child porn.

One campaigner tracking sex offenders said: “I know for a fact that inmates in many prisons now have his details.

“It is only a matter of time before someone catches up with him.”

Venables, 35, has lived under a secret identity for 17 years since he was freed from an indefinite sentence for the 1993 abduction, torture and murder of two-year-old James. He and accomplice Robert Thompson – then both 10 – lured the toddler away from his mum in a shopping centre in Bootle, Merseyside, killed him and left his body on a railway line. When they were freed in 2001 both received new identities to protect them from vigilantes. Recent photos said to show Venables were shared online after his guilty pleas to making 1,170 indecent images of children and possessing a paedophile “manual”. Messages claiming to reveal his new name along with the photos have already appeared on sites used by lags. A court ruling bars disclosure of the duo’s names, where they live or what they now look like.
