A DAD attacked his three young children and stepdaughter with a hammer before crashing the car they were in at 92mph.
Owen Scott smashed into the wall of a remote pub, leaving all four youngsters with life-changing injuries.
The children had also suffered multiple blows to the head from a hammer found in the car.
Scott was arrested after the crash at the Travellers Inn near Penistone, South Yorks, in August. He was jailed for life at Sheffield Crown Court yesterday after admitting four counts of attempted murder and dangerous driving at an earlier hearing.
Judge Mrs Justice O’Farrell ordered him to serve at least 14 years.
She heard how Scott had been a loving father to his children, aged seven, 21 months and nine months, and stepdaughter, eight.
But in the weeks before the incident, he developed paranoia, put down to a temporary psychosis caused by his long-term cocaine and cannabis use.
Simon Keeley, prosecuting, said Scott, of Fawley, Hants, became convinced he was being chased by a gang who meant to harm him and his children.
He collected the kids, who lived with his ex-partner in Southampton, and went on a round-the-country trip before crashing 230 miles from home. The judge told him he had “damaged, in some cases irrecoverably, the health, both physically and psychologically, of your children”.
